Hardship Payment Update – Underpayment Funds 

Gumala Aboriginal Corporation (GAC) is pleased to announce that the GAC and GIPL Boards have approved an exceptional hardship payment of $4,000 for eligible Members and Beneficiaries. 

This payment will be funded through the Historic Underpayment Program and will be administered by GAC. 

Both GAC and GIPL recognise the increasing cost of living and financial pressures being experienced by many households, including those related to global fuel supply issues and increases in interest rates set by the Reserve Bank of Australia. The Boards also recognise the importance of providing timely support to Members who may be experiencing hardship or financial distress. 

Funding Information 

Beginning 10th April, the following will be available: 

Members will be able to access the $4,000 hardship payment from their individual underpayment funds. 

If you do not wish to access the $4,000 hardship payment, the money will remain in your underpayment fund. 

Your Historic Underpayment Options

This hardship payment will come from your historic underpayment funds. Your remaining underpayment funds can be used in several ways:

  • Housing or property: up to $28,000
  • Rental or utility support: up to $28,000
  • Superannuation: up to $28,000
  • Purchasing card: up to $10,000

Both the December 2025 and April 2026 hardship payments come out of your underpayment amount. If you received the December hardship payment and choose to take this new payment, you will have $21,000 remaining for the other options. If you did not take either payment, you will still have the full $28,000 available.

How do I Apply? 

This hardship payment will be processed by Gumala. 

To apply for the hardship payment, please do one of the following:

  • Reply to the email sent from Gumala
